FRESH PERSPECTIVES IN CONSTRUCTION

Goal
Bloemendal Bouw aims to provide long-term guidance and training for both career changers and current employees to prepare them for existing and future tasks within the energy and resource transition.

Background
There is a significant shortage of (well-)skilled personnel. The influx of talented individuals from different professional backgrounds can help address these shortages. These individuals often bring adaptability and a fresh perspective. However, this means the company must find ways to introduce these newcomers to the technical field and professionalise them so they become employable quickly.

Moreover, many current employees lack the necessary knowledge and skills to tackle new transition-related challenges. These include understanding new technologies and legal procedures related to energy and resources, as well as having the ability to adapt, think beyond their own field, and solve problems in an integrated way.

Target groups
Career changers and current employees (at vocational, higher professional, and university levels)

Start
October 2024

Approach
For career changers, the entire process — from recruitment to being ready for the job — is mapped out, and the role of a Lifelong Learning (LLL) module in supporting this journey is explored. This pathway includes the following components:

  • Recruitment opportunities
  • Skills and competencies to be developed for entry-level roles
  • A training plan for the first year, including funding options
  • Development of a basic Construction Course (for future delivery) tailored to higher professional education (HBO) graduates
  • Registration of work experience and training in a Digital Skills Passport

For current employees, a training plan is being developed. This plan includes:

  • Overview of skills and competencies needed for career progression roles or profiles
  • A four-year training plan, including funding options
  • Registration of work experience and training in a Digital Skills Passport

Current status

Basic Construction Course
The basic Construction Course (designed for the future) for HBO-level entrants has been developed and was successfully delivered for the first time. The course offers a solid foundation in construction technology, BIM, building physics, and structural engineering, aligned with practical roles such as work planner, BIM modeller, and energy advisor.

Tailored Training Plan for Employees Bloemendal Bouw
By the end of August 2025, all employees at Bloemendal Bouw will receive a personalised training plan, based on their Digital Skills Passport. This plan will be compiled by the partnering educational institutions, removing the need for employees to search for suitable training themselves. This approach makes learning more accessible, structured, and goal-oriented.
